“FLIP FLOP FRIDAY” ON JEKYLL!

A casual-dress event with a spectacular “Southern Bash” buffet, provides a platform for “The Three of Us”, the best musical trio in the Golden Isles.  They perform a myriad of tunes from the 60’s and 70’s in the style of the Beatles, Crosby, Stills and Nash and they throw in a little Jimmy Buffet and Linda Ronstadt.

BILL CURRY   Georgia State University -  Head Football Coach

Bill Curry, a name synonymous with class and integrity in the coaching profession, accepted the challenge of building Georgia State University football as the program’s first head coach.
Many remember Coach Curry as a player, a head coach, an NFL all-pro playing career in the NFL and, most recently, as a college football analyst for ESPN.
Come to Jekyll and hear Coach Curry kick-off our district conference on Friday noon, April 23.

And There's Much More To Do for the Whole family

GOLF

Jekyll Island has been a golf destination since 1898, when Jekyll Island Club members added the first course on the island near the present-day airport. Today, Jekyll Island boasts 63 holes of golf on three 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course, earning Jekyll Island the bragging rights as Georgia's largest public golf resort.

Pine Lakes
The newest (originally designed and built in 1968 and completely renovated in 2002) and longest (at 6760 yards) course, Pine Lakes is a veritable masterpiece that meanders through ocean forests and undisturbed hammocks populated by migratory birds. The original Dick Wilson/Joe Lee design was completely renovated in 2002 by course architect Clyde Johnston, designer of Southerness Golf Club, Golf Course in Atlanta. Johnston took what was a near perfection and added his vision and flavor – including new lakes and bunkers, redesigned greens and drainage improvements – making it the premier course on Jekyll Island. During course design Clyde Johnston incorporated "Family Friendly" tee boxes, making this the only course in America that allows players of all ages to compete evenly. Pine Lakes and Jekyll Island are the official hosts for the annual US Kids Golf Jekyll Island Cup.
Indian Mound
Joe Lee, in 1975, mapped out this a new 18-hole challenge with trademark strategically situated fairway bunkers, playing through some of Jekyll Island's most pristine lakes and marshes. Lee named it Indian Mound after the large oyster shell middens deposited by aboriginal tribes hundreds of years prior. Indian Mound, like Jekyll Island's other courses is unobtrusive by residential or commercial development.
Oleander
Considered the local favorite among Jekyll Island golf courses, the Oleander Course follows the Island's inland lakes and Pine forest on the grounds that once was the 34th oldest registered golf course in the United States. The 1964, Dick Wilson-designed course challenges golfers with numerous dog legs, par 4's, 5's and situated only 300 yards from the ocean, trade winds will often affect your play.

Georgia Sea Turtle Center

From May through August, under cover of darkness, a silent drama is played out on Jekyll Island's beach. Female loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta-caretta) swim ashore, make their way across the sand, dig their nests and lay their eggs. Designated a threatened species by state and federal law, loggerhead sea turtles have found safe haven on Jekyll Island. Their nests, tucked among the dunes of Jekyll Island's clean, white beach, have made the island a major site for conservation and education.

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center officially broke ground in Jekyll Island, Ga.’s Historic Landmark District in February 2006 on the site of the original 1903 Power Plant building, much of which will be preserved and incorporated into the new facilities.
