Savannah Information
Savannah's Historic District
Savannah is proud to be
home to one of the largest National Landmark Historic Districts in the
United States. This 2.5-mile district, which runs from River Street to
Forsyth Park, features plenty of quaint shops, charming boutiques and
world-class restaurants nestled beneath a canopy of Live Oak trees.
Georgia’s First City also features stunning examples of Federal,
Italianate, Georgian and Victorian architecture.
The Historic District’s 22 squares, which formed a vital part of General
James Edward Oglethorpe’s original city plan when he founded Savannah in
1733, serve as the heart and soul of downtown Savannah and have been
widely praised for their beauty. Southern hospitality still reigns supreme
in Savannah, a city with three centuries of history. Take the time to
stroll down cobblestone streets and enjoy all that the Historic District
has to offer. Discover Savannah!
What is Conclave?
Conclave
affords students and Rotarians the opportunity to meet and learn about each
other as the students begin their GRSP year.
The Class of 2010-2011 is
comprised of 62 students from 21 countries around the World. During
Conclave, students will receive information designed to help them adjust to
life in The United States and to become part of their host families, clubs
and schools.
Conclave is also a time for Trustees, new and experienced, to receive
updated information and training . A program to orient Host Families is also
scheduled.
Conclave is a time of meeting,
learning and sharing what it means to be a part of GRSP. District 6920 and
the Savannah area Rotary Clubs are excited to host the first Conclave to be
held in Savannah since 1973. Savannah has an
historic connection to GRSP. Not only is the Program headquartered here,
Savannah is also the home of the late Hue Thomas, Jr., who guided and shaped
the Program like no other during his 35 years as it Chair.
“What is
Conclave?" It’s not just for
students. It’s something all Georgia Rotarians can take part in with
pride. Simply put, Conclave is an event you don’t want to miss. Come to
Savannah and see why!
